White Label or sometimes called Private label branding is a worldwide phenomenon that has been growing steadily since the late 1990s. Big-box retailers like Target, Walmart, Whole Foods etc. have been successful in selling white label items that feature their own branding. Often times the branding is not synonymous with the big box store name. A more common approach to businesses white label or branding of products appear to be a completely unrelated brand to the retail location, until you look into the product and who makes it.

Walmart: Room Essentials, Great Value, Equate, Parent's Choice...
Those are examples of the white label concept. Obviously Walmart does not make home care products in their back room, they white label products made by a manufacturer. But-with white label packaging and products each big store has individualized brands with their own appearance, marketing.
A Kirkland-branded product often sits next to the national brand (that actually makes the product) on the shelf: identical products, different names, the national brand selling at a higher price. For example, Costco sells Saran Wrap. Saran is a trade name currently owned by S.C. Johnson & Son. But Costco also sells its own Kirkland Signature stretch-tite plastic food wrap.
